Constantly in pursuit of a perfectly mixed protein shake or smoothie? Then you definitely want the lowdown on the latest product recall: Nearly 200,000 Vivitar blender bottles sold at Target have been pulled from shelves because the blades can continue to operate even if the bottle portion is not attached, posing a safety hazard, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall was announced on April 3 and affects around 199,000 blender bottles. Imported by Sakar International, Inc., an Edison, New Jersey-based company, and manufactured in China, the bottles are made of clear plastic and have a white plastic top and base.
Priced around $5, the affected blender bottles were sold exclusively at Target stores and target.com from December 2024 through January 2025, according to the CPSC. The recall was triggered by one report that a consumer was able to remove the bottle from the base while the blades were operating, raising the risk of cuts or lacerations, according to the CPSC. Still, no injuries were reported, the CPSC said.
In total, less than 900 of the blender bottles were sold, according to a Sakar news release about the recall. If you think you might own one but aren’t 100% sure, look for several key identifying details: a sticker reading “VIVITAR,” “Description: Blender Bottle,” “ITEM: ES15-BB-TA” and “MID #5220824” on the base, and a stamp reading “MID #5220824” in the same area. (The CPSC announcement has helpful photos to check out.) According to a Target notice, affected products also have the Target item number “234-36-2098” and the online item number “92249167.”
In light of the recall, Sakar is contacting all people known to have purchased one or more of the affected blender bottles, according to the CPSC announcement. If you’re one of them, definitely “immediately stop” using the affected bottles and contact Sakar for more information about the refund process, according to the Sakar release. The refunds will take the form of a $5 Target gift card or check.
You’ll have to return your bottle in order to receive a refund, according to the Sakar release. But, don’t bring it back to Target directly. Instead, mail it back to Sakar (the company will provide a prepaid return shipping label), according to the CSPC announcement. Proof of purchase (say, a store receipt) isn’t required.
