Magearna, the mythical Pokémon, has been added to Pokémon Legends: Z-A with the Mega Dimension DLC, though you can’t catch it through regular means. Instead, it’s only obtainable through a side mission added in the DLC, but how you access that side mission isn’t entirely clear from the jump. You’ll have to have completed the base game’s main missions as well as a specific Mega Dimension side mission to unlock Side Mission 195 “Restarting Magearna” in the DLC.

How to unlock Side Mission 195 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
To unlock Side Mission 195 “Restarting Magearna,” you’ll first have to complete Side Mission 190 “A Mimikyu for my Cutie.” However, for our playthrough, Side Mission 190 only became available after progressing deep into the base game’s post-game content. You don’t have to complete Main Mission 39 and rank up all the way in the Infinite Royale, but you will have had to complete Main Mission 42 — and therefore have caught the legendary Pokémon of Kalos — to get Side Mission 190.
Once that’s done and dusted, Vinnie should have an exclamation point now indicating a side mission is available. Speak to him and he’ll request you capture a Mimikyu for his daughter. Mimikyu aren’t found in Lumiose City, meaning you’ll have to get lucky and find one in a Hyperspace Lumiose wild zone portal. Look out for Mimikyu’s recognizable silhouette when scouring Hyperspace wild zones on your map. It’s a dual ghost- and fairy-type, so look out for zones that list ghost and/or fairy as common types.
Once you catch a Mimikyu (or multiple, if you want to keep one for yourself), head back to Quasartico and talk to Vinnie. Progress through the dialogue to give him a Mimikyu and complete the quest. You’ll now be all set to progress toward Side Mission 195.
How to get Magearna in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
With Side Mission 190 out of the way, you’ll have to leave and reenter Quasartico to get the CEO Jett to show up in the tower’s lobby. You’ll spot a Poké Ball-like orb on the floor next to her. Talk to Jett to initiate Side Mission 195.
She’ll explain that to awaken the Pokémon Magearna, Quasartico will need to fabricate its Mega Stone. To do so, Jett requests you bring her 999 Mega Shards. It’s a high number, but it shouldn’t be too much of a grind if you’ve been attacking all the pink stones you’ve come across in Lumiose City and Hyperspace Lumiose. The Mega Shards seem particularly abundant in Hyperspace Lumiose, so if you want to quickly stock up on them, spend some time hopping between Hyperspace wild zones and collecting all the Mega Shards available.
Once you have 999 Mega Shards, return to Jett at Quasartico. Just like with Vinnie’s Mimikyu side mission, all you have to do is progress through Jett’s dialogue and hand over the 999 Mega Shards. In return, Quasartico will construct Magearna’s Mega Stone, Magearnite. With the power of your trainer’s Mega Ring and the Magearnite, Magearna will awaken and join your party. Jett will also give you the Mega Stone, allowing you to Mega Evolve Magearna in battle.
