Marshman and Diligent Harry are all set to do battle in this afternoon’s feature Kachy Stakes from Lingfield, live on Sky Sports Racing.

2.50 Lingfield – Previous winners Marshman and Diligent Harry clash again

The feature Listed Midnite Kachy Stakes looks a belter with two previous winners Marshman and Diligent Harry locking horns.

Karl Burke has won this race on five occasions including with this horse last year and he looks set to go close again with Marshman, who runs under Sam James. Owner Nick Bradley reported this has been the target since November and he may be primed for a big effort.

Diligent Harry took this prize in 2024 when defeating Annaf by a length and finished a slightly disappointing fourth in last year’ s renewal. He has strong chances on the figures but might just need the run, having been off since September.

Completely Random produced a mighty impressive display when defying a mark of 93 in a course and distance handicap fourteen days ago and looks worth a crack at this level with Ryan Moore keeping the ride.

Andrew Balding’s Cool Hoof Luke has some classy form as a two-year-old, winning the Group 2 Gimcrack in 2024, but will have fitness to prove having been off for 526 days. Ferrous is also of interest, having won a sprint trial over this course and distance back in February for Jack Channon.

1.05 Lingfield – Survie makes her debut for George Boughey

All eyes will be on French recruit Survie as she has her first start for George Boughey in the Midnite Winter Derby Trial at 1.05pm.

A daughter of Churchill, she was purchased by Doreen Tabor for a staggering 1.9m guineas at the December Mares Sale and was sent to George Boughey with a view to travelling abroad this season. Rated 112, the pick of her form makes her a standout, and she should take this before heading to Saudi Arabia for her next big target.

The Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Military Academy is fit from a run in a Newcastle handicap earlier this month but may struggle to cope with the favourite. Teumessias Fox completes the trio with PJ McDonald in the plate. He was slowly away when running an encouraging fifth at Newcastle and could confirm form with the Chapple-Hyam runner again in the King Power colours.

4.25 Newcastle – Londoner and Pride Of Donegal headline

The pick of this twilight card at Newcastle is the opening Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Handicap with Londoner and Pride Of Dongal likely types.

The Kubler team saddle Londoner, whose last success came over this course and distance in May and has been running consistently since. He heads the weights under Jack Doughty and may prove vulnerable to an improver.

Pride Of Donegal could be just that as he makes plenty of appeal for Charlie Johnston and Jack Mitchell. A winner at Kempton in October, he has run well on both starts this winter and may be able to dominate over this shorter distance.

Zryan got off the mark for these connections at Wolverhampton in December and followed that up with an excellent second on Boxing Day. He failed to fire in Class 2 company and will be more suited by this lesser grade. Jockey Cieren Fallon enjoyed a 27% strike rate on the Gosforth Park tapeta in 2025 and will be looking to notch his first North East success of the year aboard this lad.

    Best of the rest

Further afield, Kenilworth (South Africa) plays host to the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes (1.20pm) and Cape Town Met (2.05pm), with £133,009 up for grabs to the winner of the later.

Stateside, it’s Holy Bull Stakes night at Gulfstream. Three horses have won this en route to Kentucky Derby glory – although none since Barbaro in 2006.
