Chinese esports organisation EDward Gaming (EDG) has failed to qualify for VALORANT Masters Toronto, the second Masters event of the 2025 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) season.

The 2024 VALORANT Champions winners were beaten by BiliBili Gaming in the Playoffs of the first stage for VCT China, ending the team’s Masters Toronto chances.

Despite topping one of the two groups during Stage 1 of VCT China, EDG found itself in the lower bracket of the Playoffs after a loss to XLG Esports in the upper bracket semi-finals.

The lower bracket quarter-finals saw the team bounce back with a 2-1 victory over Dragon Ranger, but they were handed a 2-1 loss to Bilibili Gaming in the semi-final, where the winner would secure qualification for Masters Toronto.

As a result of the defeat, EDG will not have the chance to better its third-place finish earned at Masters Bangkok earlier this year.

With EDG missing out on international competition, Bilibili Gaming Wolves Esports, and XLG Esports will represent China at Masters Toronto, taking place from June 7th to 22nd, 2025.

Regarded as one of the best VALORANT teams in China, EDG looked to build on its VCT Champions triumph from 2024 with another strong showing in 2025.

    What’s Next for EDG VALORANT?

The next opportunity for EDG to compete on the international stage could be the Esports World Cup where VALORANT makes its debut at the multi-title event taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The organisation is competing in the VALORANT China Evolution Series Act 2, an event operated by the Asian Champions League with the top two teams earning a place at the Esports World Cup.

Elsewhere, the next VCT event is the 2025 edition of VALORANT Champions. For China, the top two teams from VCT China’s second stage and the two teams with the most points will qualify for the season-ending event.

As a result of missing out on Masters Toronto, EDG remains at the top of the standings with 10 points, but this is likely to change if other Chinese teams have successful showings in Canada.
