Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” retained the top spot at the China box office for a second consecutive weekend, earning RMB70.7 million ($9.8 million) between June 6–8, according to Artisan Gateway.

The Tom Cruise-led action sequel has now grossed $46.9 million in China, maintaining a strong hold despite a slowdown in new wide releases. Of this, Imax accounted for $1.7 million for a running total of $8.7 million in the format in the Middle Kingdom.

In second place, the Chinese animated fantasy “Endless Journey of Love” from Maoyan Movie added $4.2 million in its second frame. Directed by Zhou Tienan and Yu Ao, the film is set in 1930s China and follows village girl Qian Xiao, who gains the power to control time, making her a target of powerful forces. As she uncovers the metropolis’s hidden secrets, she faces peril and the cost of her gift. The voice cast includes Karry Wang, Liu Xiaoyu, and Zhou Shen. The film has earned $16.7 million to date.

Lionsgate’s action thriller “Ballerina,” a spinoff from the “John Wick” franchise, opened in third place with $2.9 million. The film stars Ana de Armas as a vengeful assassin navigating the criminal underworld.

“Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales” placed fourth with $2.2 million, pushing its cumulative total to $12.1 million. Directed by Teramoto Yukiyo, the film sees Doraemon and his friends dive into the world of paintings, embarking on a grand adventure. The voice cast features Wasabi Mizuta, Megumi Ōhara, and Yumi Kakazu.

Rounding out the top five was Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” which brought in $2.1 million. The live-action reboot of the 2002 animated classic has now earned $22.4 million in China since its May 23 release.

China’s weekend box office totaled $26 million, marking a steep drop from the previous weekend’s $58.2 million. Year-to-date gross stands at $3.88 billion, a 26.3% increase over the same period in 2024.
