Two people are dead and six were injured in a mass shooting tied to what was billed as an after-party for the Hard Summer EDM music festival, which took place in downtown Los Angeles this weekend.
According to KTLA, the shooting occurred at around 1 a.m. Monday morning, Aug. 4, at the 1100 block of 14th Place, an industrial area by the 10 Freeway. Officers arrived on the scene after receiving calls of shots being fired. A large crowd had gathered by the time the police arrived and found eight victims.
The two deceased victims have been identified only as a man and a woman. The man died at the scene, while the woman succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. Of the six people injured, at least one remains in critical condition.
No arrests have been made, nor have police publicly identified any suspects. The LAPD did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
Notably, a few hours before the shooting, police were called to the same block to shut down a party after receiving reports that someone had a gun. Officers did detain one person for possessing a firearm, and the party was shut down. It’s unclear if the two incidents are linked.
While the party was promoted on social media as a Hard Summer after-party, it does not appear that the party had any connection with the festival. Hard Summer did host four official after-parties for Sunday night, but none were at venues near the reported location of the shooting. A rep for Hard Summer did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
