    TL;DR

    • 2XKO has 11 characters in early access, with Riot adding five more every year after release.
    • The early access 2XKO roster consists of: Ahri, Yasuo, Darius, Ekko, Illaoi, Braum, Jinx, Katarina, Vi, Warwick, and Teemo.
    • 2XKO could benefit from popular Arcane characters, like Jayce, Caitlyn, and Ambessa.
    • Of the 171 League of Legends champions, 2XKO has so many options when looking to add to its roster.

2XKO is commonly known as the League of Legends fighting game, although it lacks the roster of its parent IP. There are currently 11 2XKO characters compared to LoL’s 171, meaning that there’s plenty of big names missing from the fighting game.

With the 2XKO beta transitioning to early access and giving the wider public a view of what the game can be, there’s proof that this project has legs. With the right support, 2XKO could grow into the top tag fighter, especially if Riot continues to add to its roster.

    Early access 2XKO roster

Currently, the 2XKO roster consists of 11 characters for the early access build. Riot Games is keen to add to this roster, with a character being added each season. There will be five seasons a year, meaning five new characters a year, but for the time being, these are the characters players can use in early access:

    • Ahri
    • Yasuo
    • Darius
    • Ekko
    • Illaoi
    • Braum
    • Jinx
    • Katarina
    • Vi
    • Warwick
    • Teemo

There are a lot of big names missing, from the League of Legends characters made popular through side projects like KDA, to obvious omissions from Arcane. Some LoL champions also seem to fit the fighting game formula well, but haven’t been added to 2XKO yet.

With that in mind, here are 10 League of Legends champions we would love to see in 2XKO.

10 League of Legends characters we’d love to see in 2XKO

    Jayce

Jayce feels like such an obvious option for 2XKO. As part of the Arcane League of Legends world, he has reached a larger audience than most other champions and has created quite a following. His moveset would also translate well to a fighting game.

His hammer allows for both melee and ranged options, making him a versatile option that would separate him from potentially being just another big guy with a bigger weapon. His tech would stop him from being another Darius and make him more balanced than a typical fighting game character using hyper armour or rush-down moves.

    Akali

With Ahri already in the roster, it makes sense for at least one other KDA band member to join her, and Akali seems to fit the role best. Her ninja-like moveset would translate well to a fighting game, and her speed could make her a great rushdown staple, like Cammy from Street Fighter.

Adding a KDA skin also seems like the easiest way to print money, and with the tag-team mechanics, putting her and Ahri together just makes sense. She would also help with having a bit more representation for Ionia and can siege 2XKO players like she sieges the League of Legends ranks.

    Mordekaiser

A character from League of Legends named MordekaiserA character from League of Legends named Mordekaiser

Mordekaiser has been a staple in League for a long time, and with Riot Games’ focus on Noxus for the future, it makes sense to add the former warlord to the 2XKO roster. There’s potential for Mordekaiser to be one of the major villains of the LoL universe, but more than that, a massive, undead warlord with a giant mace fits a fighting game well.

While there is the chance that Mordekaiser becomes another Darius, his undead powers could make sure he’s not just another, heavy-hitting bruiser. Abilities like Death’s Grasp could be used as an anti-zoning tool to pull enemies closer, for example, and Mordekaiser seems to fit the direction League of Legends is going.

    Amumu

A character from League of Legends named AmumuA character from League of Legends named Amumu

The introduction of Teemo shows that Riot Games isn’t afraid to add the goofier side of League to the 2XKO roster, and Amumu is a great character to carry on this trend. His sad mummy design and tiny build makes him weirdly funny, and his emotional moves would work well for the expressive aesthetic of 2XKO.

Amumu helps show the more light-hearted side of League, even if his backstory is hilariously tragic, and a bit of goofiness has always been a staple in fighting games. Making skins for him won’t be an issue either, given his vast skin library in League of Legends.

    Miss Fortune

A character from League of Legends named Miss FortuneA character from League of Legends named Miss Fortune

Miss Fortune is practically the face of Bilgewater, a region that 2XKO could represent more, given that Illaoi is the only representative thus far. The world of Runeterra is known to have its fair share of pirates, too, and Miss Fortune could represent this side in 2XKO, especially because of her popularity.

Like Jinx, Miss Fortune makes use of firearms, and thus would be a strong zoner, although the zoners in 2XKO thus far are trap-oriented (Jinx and Teemo). Miss Fortune would provide a different kind of zoner style with her pistols, while bringing piracy and more Bilgewater love to the game.

    Ambessa

A character from League of Legends named AmbessaA character from League of Legends named Ambessa

Ambessa is yet another Arcane League of Legends champion that would suit 2XKO well. Her chained weapons would make her dangerous at several ranges without being a zoner, and her popularity as one of Arcane’s shining antagonists would ensure that plenty would want to try to learn her.

As one of the new faces of Noxus and the focus on the region by Riot Games, her inclusion would make sense, especially if her daughter, Mel, later joins her. 2XKO could get creative with Ambessa’s unique weaponry, and that creativity would separate her from many of the other warrior archetypes in League.

    Caitlyn

A character from League of Legends named CaitlynA character from League of Legends named Caitlyn

Caitlyn is another Arcane favourite and the perfect character to put alongside Vi, given their relationship. A direct character and famed sharpshooter, she could provide a simple yet effective ranged playstyle while giving Piltover a bit of representation in the 2XKO roster.

Given that she’s immensely popular, Caitlyn’s addition would be an easy win. She might need to use some of her hand-to-hand skills along with her sharp shooting to add some variety to her moveset, although there is the problem of overusing traps and making her play too much like Jinx. Still, Caitlyn is almost too popular not to be in 2XKO, especially with Vi already part of the roster.

    Viego

A character from League of Legends named ViegoA character from League of Legends named Viego

2XKO could do with more villains, and few in Runterra are as big as Viego after the Ruination storyline and the Ruined King spin-off game. This makes him one of the biggest villainous figures in League of Legends, even if he’s not completely pure evil.

Still, having a massive, magic sword and a bunch of spectral powers makes him suited for a fighting game. His powers would look great with 2XKO’s expressive art style, too, and add a seriousness to counterbalance the likes of Teemo.

    Riven

A character from League of Legends named RivenA character from League of Legends named Riven

Although she has ties to Novus and Ionia, Riven is technically regionless and has a complicated relationship with Yasuo, on account of her killing his master. This already sets the groundwork for interesting interactions, while her status as a gladiatorial warrior with a giant, runic sword makes her perfect for a fighting game.

Her highly mobile nature could make her a quick, pressure-heavy rushdown fighter. With her being one of the combo-reliant League of Legends champions known for their difficulty, she could be a great option for players looking for more complicated gameplay.

    LeBlanc

A character from League of Legends named LeBlancA character from League of Legends named LeBlanc

With her appearance in Arcane setting up the future Noxus saga, LeBlanc is one of the League of Legends characters that will likely get a strong focus in the near future. One of the mysterious members of the Black Rose hinted at in Arcane, there are plenty of reasons for Riot to add LeBlanc to 2XKO.

LeBlanc’s unique, thorny magic will provide a great aesthetic for 2XKO, and it could lead her to be another trap-based zoner. She would be vastly different from Jinx and Teemo, the two other zoners, given how serious she is and her preference for magic.

    Conclusion

While there are so many League of Legends champions that would be brilliant to see in 2XKO, these are the 10 that we think would be the best options. For a tag fighter with as many options to add to its 2XKO roster, the more characters, the merrier.

It would be great to see players climb the 2XKO ranks with the same characters they use to climb the LoL ones, and people playing their main in several games could be part of 2XKO’s appeal. Ultimately, there’s a lot of potential in 2XKO, especially with Riot Games at its back, and the more support it gets, the better.
