Why throw something away if you can reuse it? Where some might apply this philosophy to food packaged in glass or ceramic containers, it’s also applicable to Pokémon card tins. As such, trading card aficionado Nicole just wanted to show off how she was giving her Pokémon tins a second life on social media. Instead, she inadvertently started a trend that’s inspired creatives and degenerates alike.

It all started with a simple post. “i love using cute pokemon tins for my cutie essentials ⋆₊˚⊹♡” she wrote on social media site X, appending a photograph of a whimsical container. Inside the Pokémon tin were everyday items like makeup, band-aids, headphones, and a Calico Critter figurine for good measure.

This prompted other people to post the many ways they had repurposed a Pokémon trading card tin. Many replies captured the adorable spirit of the original post, or highlighted clever uses for the sturdy receptacles. Others joined in on the trend with combinations that no sane human being would ever keep anywhere.

Obviously — or hopefully — using Pokémon card tins for food storage are just trolls. Either way, Pokémon tins are evidently a versatile canvas for jokes.

Despite the bizarre replies, Nicole seems to be taking the viral meme in stride. “ive seen the craziest things in tins in my quotes these past few days,” she wrote on X in a post punctuated with a crying emoji. “you guys are getting so creative with this,” she wrote in response to someone who apparently keeps popcorn in their Pokémon tin.

Some posts did manage to crack her chill demeanor. It makes sense, though. What can one even say to the person who puts lasagna in a Pokémon box?

Worry not, however. The weirdos were outnumbered by Pokémon card fans who use their tins like Giratina intended.
