A federal officer shot a man in the leg on Wednesday evening in Minneapolis. The incident occurred just one week after ICE agent Jonathan Ross killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a post shared on X that the incident occurred in Minneapolis at 6:50 p.m. CT while federal officers were conducting a “targeted traffic stop” of a man from Venezuela. The DHS claimed that the man fled from agents on foot and that he assaulted an officer while resisting arrest. The agency also claimed that two other people from a nearby apartment attacked the officer with a shovel and broom handle, and that the officer fired a shot in self defense, striking the man who they said initially fled.
Both the officer and the man he shot are in the hospital, said the DHS, which also stated the other two individuals involved in the incident are in custody.
In a separate X statement, city officials in Minneapolis confirmed that “one adult male was shot by federal immigration enforcement agents” and later transferred to a local hospital with “apparent non-life-threatening injuries.” The city added, “We understand there is anger. We ask the public to remain calm.”
In another post, city leaders wrote: “The City of Minneapolis again demands that ICE leave the city and state immediately. We stand by our immigrant and refugee communities – know that you have our full support.”
