National esports body British Esports has announced a partnership with UK public university Loughborough University to strengthen education and training across the esports ecosystem.
The two parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the continued development of the industry at national and international levels.
Loughborough University is regarded as one of the world’s best universities for sports-related subjects, topping the QS World University Rankings for the last nine years. The campus features a range of sporting facilities in addition to coaching.
As part of the collaboration, British Esports and the university will work together to develop and promote a set of professional standards across the esports industry. Standards will cover a range of topics, including talent pathways and safeguarding.
“This collaboration reflects Loughborough’s ambition to play a leading role in the future of esports,” said Professor Jo Maher, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Sport at Loughborough University. “By working closely with the British Esports Federation, we can help shape high-quality pathways, professional standards, and inclusive opportunities across the esports ecosystem.”
In addition to creating new standards and education programmes, Loughborough University will open a new esports facility featuring 40 setups.
British Esports in 2026
2026 is shaping up to be a busy year for British Esports as it continues efforts to grow the esports industry in the UK.
In January, the national body outlined its plans to secure National Team Partner status for the inaugural Esports Nations Cup. If successful, the UK will field a roster at the multi-title event taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Elsewhere, the body’s dedicated esports and gaming arena in Sunderland is set to open this year. The facility includes a 200-seat theatre and acts as a training and education hub for players to practice in a similar environment when competing on-stage at an event.
