A Hamas official told the BBC early Sunday that Hamas’s top political leader Salah al -Bardawal was killed in an Israeli air strike in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.
Locals say a member of the group’s political office, and his wife, Birdwell, and his wife were killed.
Israeli officials had no immediate comment.
Israeli army On Tuesday, significant strikes on Gaza resumed, accusing Hamas of refusing to extend the first phase of destruction, which came into force on January 19 and continued for about two months.
Hamas dismissed Israeli accusations, and as a result, Israel accused of violating the deal, which was broken by Qatar, Egypt and the United States.
In the past 24 hours, 32 Palestinians were killed in different parts of the Gaza Strip, a Hamas Ministry of Health official said.
In a statement, Hamas said that Bardwell was praying with his wife when Israeli missiles hit them.
Earlier, Hamas spokesman, Bardwell, was often present on the local media.
It is one of about 10 Hamas officials since Israel resumed military operations in Gaza on Tuesday.
The Israeli army launched a campaign to destroy Hamas in response to an extraordinary cross -border attack on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and hosting 251 hostages.
Hamas -driven Ministry of Health says more than 49,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since then, and houses and infrastructure have caused widespread destruction.
