The three African screenwriters will develop several gender plans in the 16th series frenzy in the French city of Lily.
The line -up includes South Africa’s Mallo Empando, the creator of the comedy drama series “Women from the 13th Floor”. Uganda’s Talemo Paus, with his western series “Crazy Grace and Midnight Gun”. And Kenya -based Kenya’s screenwriter Tony Coros, which is developing a comedy series “Mini Town”.
These three authors, who will be preparing their projects during the pitch of the authentic African series on March 25, are the latest participants of the Masttetica Series Lab, a training program for African screenwriters that connect online workshops, masterclasses with industry professionals and South Africa. The lab is organized by the Cape Town Realities Institute in collaboration with the Story Board, and in collaboration with the Mania Forum and the Canada Media Fund series.
The authors have spent the past six months working together with a guide team from creative producer Mehrt Mendfro and script consultant Selena Yokoma, who also jointly designed the program.
“Creating dedicated places where African screenwriters can find their voice and improve their skills, their help and uninterrupted, not just valuable – it is important for Africa to determine their future.”
Yukoma added: “Through Mustandtica, the authors have the time and support to raise both their creative and professional development. They come to the firm of the series with a strong sense of who they are and have offered them to the international market.
“After seeing his stories from Cape Town to Geneva, we are very excited to see the three scriptwriters on the stage,” said David Ramer, the founder of the story board. “Each of these stories, in his own style, really is the statue of what is authentic.
South African author Mallo Medondo, whose first novel “Things left me by my mother” was published in 2022, in his work, identifying, heritage and woman topics. In Lily this week, she will offer her 8 × 52 “comedy drama series” 13th destination to women, “which is behind Khania, a college drop -out prostitute, whose life is reversed when her best friend dies, and Khania is left to take care of her 6 -year -old son.
Uganda’s author and director Talimoa is a graduate of the Multi -Choice Talent Factory Academy and New York Film Academy’s short -shaped workshop, whose short film “Aungato” was given in 2021 in Africa Magic Viewer Selective Awards (AMVCA). This year’s series is part of a broader African presence in the frenzy forum, which includes African capabilities and industry breakfast, a networking event that focuses on African capabilities and aims to promote mutual cooperation between African and international industry experts. Hosting this breakfast is Mason Des Monds African, Institute Francis, Realis Institute and the Story Board collective.
