The star headlined Corona Capital fest over the weekend

Before Chappell Roan took the stage as the headliner for Corona Capital festival in Mexico City on Saturday (Nov. 15), the artist was anxious that the crowd wasn’t going to take to her style of music.

“I was quite nervous for mexico city because I wasn’t sure if the crowd would vibe with me because it’s such a rock leaning festival and I was like will ppl still like me if I’m pop?” Roan wrote in a social media post Monday. “But omg the crowd was so wonderful and I felt so loved and supported! So so sick I got to do this thank you for having me.” The star added, “l will continue practicing my Spanish every day. ¡Gracias!”

In her post, Roan also noted that she had transformed into a screaming banshee for the event, tapping McQueen for the occasion. “The costume was to be inspired by early-20th-century brassieres, combined with 18th-century medical corsets and braces, which is consistent with the push and pull of feminine softness and rage,” Webb told Vogue.

Roan’s performance in Mexico City marked the finale of her Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things Tour. During her stop in Los Angeles last month, the singer delivered a heartfelt speech about how performing reminded her of why she loves her job. “I wasn’t gonna do a U.S. tour until the very last minute, I decided to do one, and I’m so glad I did,” Roan told the sold-out crowd at the Brookside at the Rose Bowl. “Everything made sense this year: Why I do this. Last year, I was really questioning, ‘Why am I doing this to myself? I’m so sad. I feel so left out in public. I feel so awkward all the time.’ And I always felt like, ‘Why am I putting myself through this? If this feels so, if this is taking so much away from me, what is this for?’”

She added: “And then I started doing shows again, and it all made sense that it was to literally bring queer people joy and tell them that it’s OK.” Roan continued, “The only thing that matters anymore is joy to me. And protecting that, and peace and safety. … So I hope you know that when you are here, you are safe, and I want you here, you can be whoever you are tonight.”
