Levy and O’Hara starred together in the sitcom Schitt’s Creek. The actress died on Jan. 30 at age 71
As the world continues to mourn the loss of Catherine O’Hara, her Schitt’s Creek co-star Dan Levy paid tribute to the comic legend.
“What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years,” he wrote in a statement. “Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.”
Levy added, “My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke and every member of her big, beautiful family.”
The celebrated actress died on Friday, Jan. 30, at her Los Angeles home at the age of 71. A rep for O’Hara told Rolling Stone that she died after a brief, unspecified illness.
A Toronto native, O’Hara was a member of the Second City improv comedy troupe alongside Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, and Eugene Levy. She rose to fame through her work on the troupe’s hit sketch show, SCTV, winning an Emmy Award for her writing in 1982. She would go on to star in several beloved projects including the blockbuster film Home Alone and the smash hit TV series Schitt’s Creek.
An outpouring of remembrances from fans and celebrities across Hollywood were shared online following news of O’Hara’s death. Macaulay Culkin, who famously played her son, Kevin McCallister, in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, was among the tributes. “Mama,” Culkin wrote on a social media post, sharing a photo of them in the 1990 Christmas classic. “I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say.”
