The Murderbot Diaries follows a cyborg security guard who self-hacks itself to gain free will. Instead, it does its best to maintain the facade of being an insentient unit, completing dangerous assignments and keeping its human clients safe from harm. Outside of duty though, Murderbot prefers to spend its time binge-watching soap operas, rather than interact with humans, whose emotions it finds utterly baffling.
While the series has its share of action and existential crises, as Murderbot learns to understand its own personality and establish its place in the world, what really makes the award-winning books soar is its dry humor (which is fortunately present in the TV show trailer).
