Jon M. Chu has signed a first-look three-year producing deal with Paramount to develop and produce feature film and television projects for the studio. The deal goes into effect January 2nd, 2026. Under the deal, Chu and his production company will be based on the Paramount lot and work closely with Paramount Pictures Co-Chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, Motion Picture Group President Don Granger, and Paramount Television Studios President Matt Thunell.
Most recently, Chu directed Wicked: For Good, which opened in November and now holds the record for biggest global opening ever for a movie based on a Broadway show, and the second biggest opening at the domestic box office in 2025.
Chu also directed Wicked, the first installment of the two-part adaptation of the record-breaking Broadway musical. Released in 2024, the film became the highest-grossing film adaptation of a Broadway musical ever, earning more than $756 million worldwide and garnering widespread critical acclaim.
Chu previously directed the global phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians, which became the highest-grossing romantic comedy in nearly a decade at release and a watershed moment for Asian and Asian American representation in Hollywood. The film earned widespread critical acclaim and multiple award nominations, including from the Critics’ Choice Awards, SAG Awards, Golden Globes, and the PGA.
