Joey and Pacey are back. Sort of. Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson will reunite for a trilogy of films more than 22 years after their beloved teen drama Dawson’s Creek came to an end.
The films, titled Happy Hours, are described as romantic dramedies and will be directed by Holmes. Mary Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr, Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin will also star. The first film will go into production this summer, with the second and third installments scheduled to follow closely after.
The official synopsis describes Happy Hours as “a story about two people navigating their relationship within the challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love despite life’s inevitable obstacles. The film is a character driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope.”
On Dawson’s Creek, Holmes played Joey Potter and Jackson played her pal and sometimes-boyfriend Pacey Witter. The series, which also starred James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams, ran on the WB for six seasons. Holmes and Jackson also dated in real life from 1998-1999.
Holmes made her directorial debut in 2016 with All We Had and has since helmed Alone Together and Rare Objects. She also directed an episode of The Kennedys: After Camelot, on which she portrayed Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy.
Jackson most recently starred in TV series Doctor Odyssey, which was recently canceled after one season. “That was a really good group of people, and it was a really fun show,” Jackson told People of the show ending so soon. “But this is a crazy and difficult business, and whatever the reasons were for them not wanting to move forward with it, they don’t actually tell us those things. I’m going to miss the gang for sure. I hope they got the same thing that we got out of it, which was that it was a beautiful, over-the-top kind of experience that was like nothing else on television, I don’t think.”
