Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, recently married Murphy’s son, Eric, in a private church ceremony
Back in 1999, Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy co-starred in the dramedy Life. In the film, the pair played frenemies who are sentenced to life in prison due to a wrongful conviction. More than 25 years later, the two comedians and actors are more than just former co-stars. The pair are locked in for life as in-laws following the union of Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, and Murphy’s son, Eric.
During a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Murphy revealed that their children tied the knot during a private ceremony for which neither he nor Lawrence was present. “We’re in-laws,” he said. “Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them … They went off and they got married at the church. They just had the two of them and the preacher.”
Murphy expects there to be “a big party or something” later on to celebrate the couple. There might be a big toss-up around who foots the bill for that element of the marriage, as the actor joked that since they married privately, Lawrence “doesn’t have to pay for that big wedding now.” The Bad Boys star previously joked that Murphy handed the responsibility to him. “He said he paid for his last daughter’s wedding [and] for the last six weddings,” Lawrence said on the Big Boy’s Neighborhood podcast. “He says it’s my turn now … I don’t mind, I don’t mind.”
Eric is the oldest of Murphy’s 10 children, while Jasmin is the oldest of Lawrence’s three children. The pair publicly announced their relationship in 2021 and shared news of their engagement in December. “We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter,” Jasmin wrote on Instagram. She has since updated her display name to Jasmin Lawrence Murphy.
