Executive Game Director Katsuhiro Harada has stated that this is the first time there has been a new character from Africa, with Miary Zo hailing from Madagascar. There has not been a single character from Madagascar in any fighting game, he added.
Tekken developers took the addition of Miary Zo very seriously, even visiting Madagascar and connecting with the country’s local fighting game scene. While it was still a secret that Miary Zo was in the works, Kohei ‘Nakatsu’ Ikeda was able to ask questions about the country and its people, getting a lot of details for the new character’s design.
No gameplay has been revealed for Miary Zo just yet. However, players already have pretty strong opinions about her appearance. In response to the short reveal, gamers expressed frustration with Tekken’s ‘uninspired’ designs for female characters.
Gamers expressed that a lot of female characters look the same, with very similar faces and body shapes. However, only time will tell if Miary Zo can make an impact on the community and esports scene with her actual abilities.

Armor King will be coming to Tekken 8 on October 16th, 2025. There’s no exact date for Miary Zo just yet, but she will likely come in the Winter near the end of Season 2.
