“You can be sad and lament it all you want, but the change is here,” she said

Reese Witherspoon wants women to embrace artificial intelligence as media evolves with new technology. In an interview with Glamour published Tuesday about The Morning Show, the actress spoke about the importance of getting women involved in “emerging industries,” especially now with the advent of AI.

“It’s so, so important that women are involved in AI… because it will be the future of filmmaking. And you can be sad and lament it all you want, but the change is here,” she said. “It will never be a lack of creativity and ingenuity and actual physical manual building of things. It might diminish, but it’s always going to be the highest importance in art and in expression of self.”

When asked about how she uses AI, Witherspoon said she incorporates it into her life “every day,” especially with tools like Vetted AI and Perplexity to help her with shopping but also with making appointments and “navigating the hospital system.” She added, “It’s an incredible tool to save time.”

    Trending Stories

The film industry has been grappling with the advent of AI in art. Last year, James Cameron officially joined the board of Stability AI. At the time, the director called the “intersection of generative AI and CGI image creation” the “next wave.” He added, “The convergence of these two totally different engines of creation will unlock new ways for artists to tell stories in ways we could have never imagined.”

Many filmmakers and actors have also criticized the use of it in the movie industry. Lisa Kudrow previously slammed Robert Zemeckis’ Here, calling the time-jumping film “an endorsement for AI.” Kudrow said: “It’s not like, ‘Oh it’s going to ruin everything,’ but what will there be left? Forget actors, what about up-and-coming actors? They’ll just be licensing and recycling.”
