EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-winner Anna Sawai and Hidetoshi Nishijima are set to join the cast of the new A24 crime pic Enemies starring Austin Butler and Jeremy Allen White. Henry Dunham is writing and directing.
Cameras roll this summer in Chicago on the reported $25M production. In Enemies, a relentless detective and an infamous contract killer collide in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen of Square Peg are producing alongside A24. Alejandro De Leon will also produce. Josh Bachove will executive produce.
Sawai took the town by storm last year following her Emmy-winning performance in Shōgun, winning the Golden Globe for Actress in a Television Series – Drama, an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series and a SAG Award for Female Actor in a Drama Series.
Sawai is currently in production on (Saint) Peter, a coming-of-age dramedy executive produced by Peter Farrelly, and has recently wrapped production on the second season of Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. She can also be seen in Seasons 1 and 2 of the Apple TV+ adaptation of Pachinko; Justin Lin’s F9, the ninth installment of Universal’s The Fast and the Furious franchise; the Netflix/BBC series Giri/Haji; and James McTeigue’s Ninja Assassin for Warner Bros. She is shooting David Leitch’s next film How to Rob a Bank this summer.
Nishijima starred in the Academy Award-winning 2021 Japanese feature Drive My Car. Hidetoshi’s impressive career in Japan has ranged from such epic science fiction films as Shin Ultraman, to small-scale art films, including Takeshi Kitano’s Dolls. Recently, Hidetoshi portrayed the role of “Kotaro Minami” in Kamen Rider Black Sun, the remake of the 1987 series Kamen Rider Black and in 2017, Hidetoshi became the first Japanese man to model for Giorgio Armani’s Made-to-Measure collection.
