EXCLUSIVE: RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked raced to the Season 16 finish line with its best performance in years.
Season 16 scored the series’ highest ratings in three years among the 18-34 and 18-49 demographics, per Paramount Global. With the 18-34 crowd, the season managed a 0.378 rating, up 14% from last season’s 0.332 rating. Meanwhile, the 18-49 demo was up 6% to a 0.419.
The season also delivered the biggest TV shares ever for Untucked in those same demographics. The 18-34 demo was up 28% to a 4.49 share, while in 18-49 the season was up 19% to a 3.09. Share refers to the percentage of households watching a specific program or channel, relative to the total number of households watching television at the same time.
The series was also the third best performing show on cable in the first quarter of the year among adults 18-34.
RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked gives a behind-the-scenes look at the flagship competition series, peeling back the curtain on what viewers don’t see on the show — the backstage battles, catfights and secrets. The drag queens let their emotions out as they crack under the pressure of competing to become America’s next drag superstar.
MTV shook things up for Season 16, evolving the show’s format to give the cast more agency to tell their stories. It appears to have paid off, as the goal was to engage the audience on a deeper level by creating a more dynamic viewing experience.
